Carton Despatch (Navigator Voice 2013)

Navigator Voice allows a worker to record despatch information and trigger the printing of courier labels and invoices directly from their voice computer. This process removes the need to have a PC at the despatch area, and the need for the packer to interact with a keyboard, because all input may be spoken or scanned.

Please note: Your system will likely have been customised and may differ slightly from this process. Certain prompts may have been added to assist in workflows specific to your company, or removed to streamline the process.

Process

During the picking process, each item is placed into a barcoded carton. As each item is picked, a record is built of the contents of each carton, and completed cartons are transported to the packing area by conveyor,

At the packing area, a packer may rearrange stock within a carton and add void-fill. Following this process, the carton is weighed, and the cubic of the carton is recorded. The system then generates a consignment number for the carton, or attaches the carton to an existing consignment. Courier despatch labels are requested, and if the carton scanned is the last one for an order, Navigator sends a "pick despatched" message to the ERP system with the details of goods despatched.  Finally, the carton is taped with the invoice inside (if applicable) and the courier label applied. Cartons as then separated onto separate pallets by courier.

Voice System Conversation Description
Talkman: Carton?

Picker scans carton: PS123456
Scan the carton barcode with barcode scanner connected to the Talkman via Bluetooth or a cable.

Once the carton has been scanned, Navigator checks to see if the carton is valid and has not been despatched yet.

If the carton is incorrect, the system says "Carton scanned is not valid. To try again, say ready."
If the carton is correct, but has already been despatched, the system says "Carton has already been despatched. To get next carton, say ready."
Talkman: Carton Type?

Picker: "1"

Standardised carton sizes are loaded into Navigator with a number assigned to each carton. By speaking a number indicating the type of carton, Navigator can automatically fill in the length, width and height of the parcel. Navigator supports a 'custom' carton which allows the worker to specify the length, width and height directly.

Talkman: Weight?

Picker: "0.14"

Talkman: "0.14, correct?"

Picker: Yes

Speak the weight of the carton to two decimal places.

Talkman: Label requested for Startrack.

Navigator sends the label request to the relevant courier system and reports the name of the courier company to the picker.

Talkman: Collect invoice.

Picker: Ready.

If the carton despatched is the last carton for the order, Navigator triggers an update to the accounting system and requests the printing of a delivery docket or invoice.
